Did you know

Emergency Services

Have you ever wondered how our students would react if emergency services had to rush into your home in an emergency situation? Strangers, emergencies and changes can heighten some childrens anxiety and potentially cause them to act out. If this is a concern, did you know you can contact the ambulance service and have a note added to your address alerting them that a resident has a diagnosis that may require them to enter with care. Call Kelly and she will assist you.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Did You Know

In Gatwick Airport in 2016 an advisory group worked with local and national charities to assess whether using a lanyard would benefit people living with hidden disabilities when travelling. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand. Since 2016 the program has expanded world wide.

Lanyards are quite frequently seen in our community, and workers in train stations, airports and busses are aware to look for them. Many other businesses have now partnered with Hidden Disabilities and they are now utilised in stadiums, and many other events, venues and shops.

Did You Know lanyards are free at many train stations.

More information on Hidden Disabilities is available on their website.

Preparing for your child turning 16

Things to consider as your teenager nears their 16th birthday. Do they have:

·         Their own bank account

·         Their own Tax File Number

·         Their birth certificate

·         Proof of age card from ServiceNSW

·         Apply for Disability Support Pension

·         Apply for Pensioner Educational Supplement payment

·         If not receiving NDIS assistance apply for Mobility Funding

Parent/Carers should ensure any Carer Allowance/Payment being received is changed to an Over 16 payment.

As your teenager is turning 18 you should be considering:

·         Completing the ‘Objection claim that an elector should not be enrolled’ form on the Australian Electoral website. This will remove them from the electoral role.

·         Consider Guardianship for your childs financial and/or medical and/or legal affairs.

Creating a Personal QR Code

Some of us worry about our young (or old) ones wondering off. We lose valuable items or we can’t identify things.
Did You Know  you can make a personal QR Code that when scanned with a mobile device will show any details you input.

QR codes can be easily made for free from many websites (free ones do include advertising as below, if you use a paid site this shouldn’t happen). You may print them yourself, or have a business (eg Officeworks) print them for you. Print onto iron-on patches for clothes, or onto vinyl patches that can then be stuck onto items.

International and domestic airline and airport operators have been encouraged to develop Disability Access Facilitation Plans. Disability Toilets & Obtaining an MLAK Key

When you plan a day out is it too difficult when there are no disabled toilets around, and worse still there are very few toilets that have hoists and adult change facilities? Did You Know Changing Places is a website that uses google maps to show you where toilets are located that have the following facilities: a height-adjustable adult-sized change table, a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system, an automatic door with a wide opening for wheel chairs, and a privacy screen.

Betomorrow is an app available for android and Apple hardware that finds the closest toilets near you

Some of these toilets need a Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia key (MLAA) to gain access.

Did You Know these are the same keys that are needed to unlock and use Liberty Swings that are in many playgrounds. Here is where you can find Liberty Swings in Australia and around the world: www.libertyswing.com.au

NDIS APP

There is a NDIS App? It is user friendly and accessible. You can access your personal details and plans, track your budget, and manage claims for self managed participants.
